What is a Saltless Water Softener?Many systems have flooded the market in the past few years claiming to soften the water without using a regenerate such as salt or potassium and not having a drain.
To soften the water you have to remove the dissolved rock (calcium & magnesium) from the water.
Hard Water = Water with dissolved rock (calcium & magnesium) Soft Water = Water without dissolved rock (calcium & magnesium)
Let me ask you a question. If the saltless water softener doesn't have a drain where it can rinse out the dissolved rock from your water where does the dissolved rock go?
Answer Nowhere..Its still in your water..
So how does that make the water Soft? Your answer is as good as mine..
So you ask cant the dissolved rock (calcium & magnesium) just stay in the tank of the saltless softener?
Answer Maybe..The problem with that statement is dissolved rock is well dissolved rock. Just as it builds up in your plumbing, on your fixtures, appliances and on your body it will build up in your saltless tank. In the Kansas City area an average family of 4 can have up to 200lbs. of dissolved rock pass through their homes plumbing in one year. That saltless water softener is starting to get pretty heavy. So by year two you would need a forklift to get it out.
If Saltless Water Softeners don't soften the water why do they claim to have so many satisfied customers?
Answer Most of the people that are happy have never had a traditional water softener to know the difference and never had their water tested prior to the saltless softener and after to see if there was an actual improvement in the water quality.
A simple water hardness test can tell you if the water is soft. Saltless Water Softener hardness tests the same before and after the system.
Saltless Softeners do improve the taste and odor quality of the water not by softening but by filtering.
What these Saltless Companies are doing is selling you a water filter for the price of a water softener.
If it does not have a Drain it does not Soften the Water..... |

The Problem: Hard water minerals that pass through the water are Inorganic a form the body cannot use. Although most pass through the body some stay in the body causing kidney and gall stones. In order for the body to process the mineral calcium or magnesium it must be in an organic state.
